Culture Quest: Florida in the Civil War
Spend three days immersed in the remarkable story of Florida’s little known role in the Civil War, including:
·Florida before the war, from territory to state to secession in 40 years
·Overview of Florida in the Civil War and its important role in supplying commodities such as salt and beef to the Confederacy
·Artifacts from the Maple Leaf, a Union steamer sunk off the coast of Florida
·Love letters between Winston and Octavia Stephens, newlyweds during the Civil War
·Intriguing story of the life and gallows death of Lincoln conspirator Lewis Thornton Powell with visit to Geneva Cemetery to see Powell’s gravesite
