Sun Screens Movie: “Apollo 13”

Sunday, August 26, 2  p.m.

Keep cool with a series of Sunday matinees featuring movies linked to Florida. We’ll supply the popcorn, along with fascinating facts about each film, and you can join in on a fun trivia contest. After the movie, we’ll also have the opportunity for a short behind-the-scenes discussion with an expert about the subject of each film.

Featured Film: “Apollo 13” (1995)

For director Ron Howard and the cast including Tom Hanks, realism was the name of the game. The real-life story on which the film was based was suspenseful enough on its own to enthrall an audience, even though its outcome was hardly a secret. Astronaut James Lovell appears in a cameo.

Our featured speaker will be Emilee Speck, a journalist, videographer, web editor, Pluto enthusiast, and Florida Space Coast native. She is a digital multimedia journalist at WKMG News 6, where she covers space, breaking news, and all things Central Florida. Prior to joining WKMG, Emilee worked at the Orlando Sentinel, re-launching the Sentinel’s online space coverage. Before returning to Central Florida, she worked at the Naples Daily News and the National Press Foundation in Washington, D.C.

There’s nothing like seeing a movie the old-fashioned way: with a group of fellow movie fans. The series is free for members!

Popcorn and beverages will be provided.
