History After Dark: Halloween Edition

Friday, October 24, 2025, 5 – 9 p.m.

Experience history with a haunting twist! Step into the past like never before in an evening of immersive storytelling, interactive activities, and unforgettable encounters. Explore the museum at your own pace as historical figures roam the halls, eager to share their stories and secrets. Get hands-on with artifacts and games, or uncover hidden tales of Central Florida through our exhibits.

This month, we’re summoning all goblins and ghouls for a chillingly fun evening! Kick off your spooky weekend with adult-centered thrills – test your luck at eerie games (with prizes from local businesses), follow spine-tingling clues in a scavenger hunt that leads you through every frightening floor, and hit the dance floor to shake your tail feathers and earn your spot in our costume contest. From ghostly encounters to haunting history, this spirited night at the History Center offers something for everyone.

The evening’s schedule:

5-9 p.m.: The Haunted Lodge calls your name . . . do you dare answer? Try your hand at carnival games to win prizes, take to the dance floor to show off your ghoulish groove, and have your fortune read by Mystical Harmony. Enjoy beer, wine, themed mocktails, and wood-fired pizza.

5 & 6:30 p.m.: Experience guided tours of the museum. Beware of what – or who – might stick with you! Some spirits and stories are known to shock.

6 & 8:30 p.m.: Step into a trial in our 1927 historic courtroom, where you’ll have a prime seat to all the action! Hear real stories from crimes of days gone by. But beware: choose  your verdict carefully – you wouldn’t want to upset the dead!

7:30 p.m.: Revisit chilling destinations of the past with our historian, Rachel Williams, in her talk, “The History Behind Central Florida’s Spooky-Themed Attractions,” She’ll answer such questions as: When did Halloween Horror Nights begin? What was Terror on Church Street? And perhaps most frightening of all . . . why did ticket prices become so high for these haunted attractions?

Costumes encouraged! No masks or weapons allowed. Costume-contest winners will receive an array of amazing prizes generously donated by SAK Comedy Lab, Publix, and more!

Tickets: Students $10; Adults $20.
OCRHC Members: Log-in to receive $5 off the adult ticket price.

Advanced ticket purchase is strongly encouraged.
