The Orange County Regional History Center’s Fifth Annual Women’s History Month event honors the historic impact of women on Florida and the world and highlights the importance of women’s often untold stories. Proceeds support the History Center’s HERstory: Women in History Internship program.
This year’s theme, “Daring Women of the Skies,” celebrates the groundbreaking achievements of four pioneering aviators and their connections to Central Florida. They include Bessie Coleman, our nation’s first Black and Native American woman pilot, “Grace the Ace,” who flew reconnaissance out of Orlando during World War II; Ruth Elder, the first woman to attempt a transatlantic flight; and Betty Skelton, who set so many records she was known as the “First Lady of Firsts.” We’ll also cheer on pathbreaking aviation adventurer Martha Esch and novice pilot Delia Miller, in training today.
Doors open at 8 a.m. with a breakfast buffet, coffee, and conversation, followed by a program at 8:45 a.m. Individual tickets are $35; History Center Member and Orange County employee tickets are $30.
