The Orange County Regional History Center is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Chief Operating Officer. The History Center is a national multi-award-winning, AAM accredited, and Smithsonian affiliated institution centered around its mission: to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida’s continually unfolding story.
Working as a strategic thought partner to the Executive Director, this position performs high-level management and supervision for the oversight of museum operations, information technology, security and facilities, and earned revenue departments, ensuring that all policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Executive Director.
- Work with the Executive Director to champion and implement the museum’s mission, strategic, and operational plans.
- Act as the manager and thought leader for daily museum operations, human resources, facilities, information technology, and earned revenue (visitor experience, retail, events) with an eye towards holistic needs of the organization.
- Work closely with facilities management to assure that all aspects of the building are to best standards and are fully operational for the public.
- Oversee building security, cleaning services, and other contract labor positions. Assure that they operate within budget and see that labor meets customer service expectations of the History Center. Coordinate labor needs with all areas of the Center.
- Supervise or coordinate with department heads, staff, and community stakeholders as necessary for logistics and scheduling activities throughout the building
- Supervise departmental budgets and assist in budget preparation, including purchasing card expenses in the building.
- Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate policies and procedures.
- Assess department functions, priorities, and processes to ensure efficiencies, excellence, and alignment with museum best practices and AAM accreditation standards.
- Be an inclusive leader and manager of the highest integrity, with the ability to motivate, inspire, and engage staff as a team around a shared vision; able to encourage and celebrate the talents of the team while also holding each accountable to institutional goals.
- Communicate with dignity and respect and set a good personal example for the staff to develop professionally.
- Assists in other areas and performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, non-profit administration, business, history, humanities, public history, or a related field.
- Five years of experience in overseeing complex projects or institutions; progressive management experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
- Effective and exceptional written and verbal communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
- Possesses a strong working knowledge of museum best practices.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in museum studies, non-profit administration, business, history, humanities, public history, or a related field.
- Experience with administrative best practices for cultural institutions, including human resources, procurement, and project management.
- Ability to handle situations with sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy
- Excellent problem solving and customer services skills.
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours
Schedule: Generally, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, evenings and weekends may be required for programming, events, or emergencies.

Salary: $31.18 – $48.60/hour
*Potential salary exceeding the minimum is evaluated by Human Resources and the Department Director
