Sally’s Night

Thursday, June 15, 2023, 5 – 8 p.m.

All astronauts lead exciting lives, but some are larger than life even before they reach for the stars. Born in Los Angeles in 1951, Dr. Sally Kristen Ride lived her life with extraordinary energy, passion, curiosity, and joy. She was the first American woman to fly in space, and also the youngest American, when she lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on the Challenger STS-7 on June 18, 1983, as part of a five-member crew. Later, she founded Sally Ride Science, to encourage young people, especially girls, to pursue careers in science and technology.

This year on Thursday, June 15, join the Orange County Regional History Center for Sally’s Night to celebrate the wonder of our universe and honor women in space. We’ve planned a cosmic event full of activities for the whole family. Admission is free.

Featured speaker for the evening will be Dr. Kathleen B. Loftin, Center Chief Technologist from NASA. In her role, Dr. Loftin manages the research and technology projects at Kennedy Space Center, ensuring that the center has a robust research and technology portfolio that addresses the challenges of NASA’s mission.

This project received Federal support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool, administered by the Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum.
