Brechner Series: Roaring Reptiles, Bountiful Citrus, and Neon Pies

Sunday, January 19, 2 p.m.

Veteran Florida journalist Mark Lane aims his sharp wit at one of the most intriguing duties of the Florida legislature — signing state symbols into law. In this engaging talk based on his recently published book, Roaring Reptiles, Bountiful Citrus, and Neon Pies: An Unofficial Guide to Florida’s Official Symbols, Lane spotlights the sometimes surprising things that have been designated to officially define the Sunshine State.

The Brechner Speaker Series honors the late Joseph L. Brechner, a longtime journalist, Central Florida community leader, and television pioneer who is also remembered as one of Orlando’s first clear public voices for civil rights.

Free admission for this event. Parking is available at the Library Garage, 112 E. Central. For details about the Brechner Speaker Series and all History Center programs, call 407-836-8500 or 800-965-2030.
